He gripped the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles were white. The familiar route to his parents' house felt like a winding path towards a looming judgment. He could feel the pulse in his temples.

Each turn of the car, each passing street sign, heightened the sense of dread. He pulled into the driveway, killed the engine, and then sat there, frozen.
